Samuel & Lauren's B'nai mitzvah

Posted on September 26, 2016

Prior to every Bar and Bat Mitzvah, I like to do a pre-shoot with bar or bat mitzvah child. It's a great way to break the ice and get the child comfortable with taking photos. Often, at a South Florida Bar/Bat Mitzvah, clients will use the photos from the pre-shoot at the party - either by simply displaying them or actually integrating them into the decor itself. Samuel and Lauren's pre-shoot was at South Beach Park in Boca Raton. We were able to get some great casual photos with both them and their entire family that day. The first few shots below were from that shoot. The party at Parkland Country Club was about a month later.

Very recently I had the pleasure of photographing Samuel and Laurens Bnai Mitzvah at one of the loveliest South Florida venues, Parkland Country Club. The family elected to have one party to honor both children, as they are only one year apart in school. Its a great way to make an already grand celebration event grander by honoring two children at once! We began the evening by photographing Samuel, Lauren and their family at the club. By the time we were finished, everyone was ready to party!

Parkland Country Club is a great place for a South Florida Bar or Bat Mitzvah, with a fabulous ballroom and an impeccable catering staff as well. Its magnificent grounds are also a terrific place for photos if both weather and time permit. The lush greenery of the landscape and expansive grounds are always a pleasure to photograph against. The interior is classy and upscale and any décor you select will work beautifully here. A South Florida Bar/Bat Mitzvah wouldnt be complete without a fabulous DJ and festive décor, and this party had both! The event itself was fun and festive with vibrant purple tones throughout the ballroom.

As a South Florida photographer, I love photographing Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, as its always a happy occasion and the family is always thrilled to take part in not just the party, but also the formal photos as well. Aside from the service, which I am not always called upon to shoot, the portraits and the party are a great remembrance of the childs passage to adulthood. With that said, I do enjoy photographing Bar and Bat Mitzvah services, as it is a unique Jewish religious experience and is very meaningful both spiritually and personally for both the child and his or her family. Capturing photos of this right of passage is always an honor, though, as mentioned sometimes it is either not permitted to have a photographer in the sanctuary OR the service is performed elsewhere where I am not called upon to photograph it.

At this particular South Florida BNai Mitzvah, I had my son Joel along with me, as he was an invited guest. I was able to see him first hand, enjoying himself during all of the party festivities with his friends. As a South Florida photographer, I found this event to be a particularly fun one for me to photograph at an incredible location with an enthusiastic and fun client to work with. Thanks so much to Samuel, Lauren and your family for allowing me to be a part of your special day!

It’s snowing in South Florida!

As an avid snow skier myself, I couldn't wait to photograph this party.

Garrett’s Really Rockin' Bar Mitzvah Bash

Posted on June 24, 2008

As far South Florida Mitzvahs go, this was one of the grandest affairs I have ever had the pleasure of photographing! It all began with Garrett’s pre-shoot at his family’s home, where we captured some great shots of him playing soccer, basketball as well as some nice portraits. The theme of his Bar Mitzvah was “blue”, so everything was adjusted to have a blue cast or some sort of blue in each photo. Check out the first 3 photos below to see the "blue."

Garrett’s ceremony on the morning of 6/7/08 was at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, but the main event was later that day at the site of the Old School Square in Delray Beach where an enormous 8,000 square foot tent was erected to house the party for the several hundred lucky guests invited to attend. All the guests wore white, except Garrett’s mom, who shimmered in a glamorous off the shoulder gown.

The décor was ultra-modern, all white with cool blue lighting that gave everything inside the tent a blue glow. A sumptuous buffet with several different stations, an ice-cream cart, and a delectable candy table kept the guests satiated all evening long. Linzi Etzion, mitzvah planner extraordinaire, masterfully coordinated all aspects of the event. As always, Linzi was a delight to work with and did an incredible job pulling everything together for this ultra-elaborate party.

A highlight of the evening was when the popular dance troop “Live in Color” took center stage and performed a number featuring Garrett! All the kids, as well as the adults, were thrilled with this performance!

All in all, this was an amazingly artsy and creative and totally fun South Florida Bar Mitzvah that I was privileged to have the opportunity to photograph along with my second photographer on the job, Albert. We both had a great time and thank Linzi Etzion and the Schwartz’s for the opportunity to be a part of such a terrific event.

Fun, fun, fun!

WOW!

Let's not forget the sweets!

Matty’s ultra-cool Bar Mitzvah celebration at Woodfield Country Club

Posted on June 9, 2008

I love photographing Bar and Bat Mitzvahs because it’s really neat to see the theme that each boy or girl selects for their celebration and even more interesting, how the theme is executed. In Matty’s case, his Bar Mitzvah was inspired by hip-hop music. According to his mom, Lisa, Matty loves EVERYTHING about hip-hop – the style, the dances, the music and the culture. In addition, Matty also loves basketball, so his mom was sure to incorporate that into his party as well. This was an event like no other Woodfield Country Club had ever seen! In fact, there was a local television station there to capture the festivities!

Matty’s theme was appropriately dubbed “Club M”, which at this party referred to an all white, very chic and hip hip/hop club. Everything from a custom designed logo to metal invitations were used to create the urban hip-hop feel for this event. Woodfield Country Club was completely transformed into a gritty, urban cityscape complete with a subway station, basketball court, garbage can musicians, graffiti and chain link fences. No detail was left to the imagination!

These vendors helped make the magic at Matty’s very special “Club M” Bar Mitzvah…

Music – Mthree Entertainment
Décor – Bruce Sutka of Sutka Productions
Video – Chad Ehret of Timeline Productions

The ultra-cool invite is pure metal and arrived with custom "Club M" postage.

Francesca’s “underwater” Bat Mitzvah at Temple Kol Tikvah

Posted on March 11, 2008

On February 23rd, I had a great time photographing Francesca’s underwater themed Bat Mitzvah. The entire event was held at Temple Kol Tikvah in Parkland. Francesca did a great job reading from the Torah on her special day. Check out the striking photos of her in beautiful Temple Kol Tikvah, with its magnificent circular ceiling! The celebration to follow was beautifully orchestrated by Sara Renee Events. The “under the sea” theme was creatively brought to life by the talent of the team at Xquisite Events. Temple Kol Tikvah was literally transformed into an underwater fantasy land with deep blue tablecloths, a seascape, sandcastles and sushi. I barely had time to come up for air!
